From Truly to Temple of the Dog, the Northwest supergroup is hardly a new phenomenon, but Filthy Friends may be the finest to date. On their Kill Rock Stars debut, Invitation, Scott McCaughey (Young Fresh Fellows), Peter Buck (R.E.M.), Corin Tucker (Sleater-Kinney), Kurt Bloch (Fastbacks), and Bill Rieflin (King Crimson) have crafted a stirring rock record that recalls the Patti Smith Group gone power pop, and with a Southern accent. Though he suffered a stroke last fall, the recently recovered McCaughey will be bringing his irrepressible vibe to this Seattle date, while touring drummer Linda Pitmon will be filling in for Rieflin.
