Patton Oswalt: Michelle McNamara's 'I'll Be Gone in the Dark'

Recommended, Don’t Miss

Broadway Performance Hall Capitol Hill

You know Oswalt from his stomach-churningly funny stand-up, from his also-funny-but-way-more-than-merely-funny books (special shout out to Silver Screen Fiend, the actual story of my life), and from his often-embattled-but-typically-mostly-funny Twitter feed. Tonight, though, you will encounter an even more impressive side of Oswalt: the champion of the life and work of the late Michelle McNamara, the brilliant true crime journalist and writer to whom he was married. McNamara worked for many years on a book about the search for a man she dubbed “The Golden State Killer,” who terrorized Northern and Southern California, committing 50 rapes and 10 murders between 1976 and 1986. Though unfinished at the time of her death, I'll Be Gone in the Dark: One Woman's Obsessive Search for the Golden State Killer has been completed by her colleagues using McNamara’s extensive writings, interviews, and research.
