Our salmon are at risk, not only in the Northwest but all over the world. Hoping to raise awareness of their plight, Joseph Rossano and his collaborators have sculpted a school of silvered glass salmon, which are paired with videos from scientists, artists, and indigenous people. Rossano says his project grew out of concern for the salmon schools of the Skagit River, whose population has shrunk from the millions to the tens of thousands. Steelhead are in an even worse state, numbering only in the hundreds. Contemplate the future of the iconic fish and the art they inspire.
