UW Tacoma alumnus and labor activist Zachary Pattin will speak about the 1934 West Coast Waterfront Strike, which closed up "2,000 miles of coastline" and precipitated the founding of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union's (ILWU). The ILWU created its own hiring halls, a historical development that still influences the organization's radical nature today.
