"Art and drama therapists use techniques from art and theatre to help their clients heal, grow, and actualize an expanded menu of potentials. Training students to enter these fields and become professional art and drama therapists naturally involve a great deal of experiential work in the classroom, alternating with discussion to help students integrate experiential and more traditionally academic forms of learning.

Art therapist Michael Buchert and drama therapist Fred Landers offer this sample class to give you a taste of the experiential work and discussion that is typical in the art and drama therapy classes at Antioch. Attendees are asked to commit to attending the full two-hour class. In the portion devoted to drama therapy, Fred will guide us in exercises involving playful movement and imaginative interactions within scenes that we will create together. Be sure to wear clothing you feel comfortable moving in. Taking off your shoes for this part is encouraged. In Antioch’s art studio, Michael will lead us in a process of art making that emphasizes our relationship to the materials with which we choose to express ourselves." (Promo Copy)
