Ross From Friends
When Felix Weatherall’s electronic project surfaced a couple years back, it was highly on trend. A number of producers had been tearing up SoundCloud with hazy, nostalgic house music released under monikers that were either irreverent (DJ Boring, DJ Houseplants) or referenced ’90s ephemera (DJ Seinfeld). Now signed to beat-oriented label Brainfeeder, where his deep house is something of an outlier, Ross from Friends has grown up, gotten serious, and moved in with Rachel. Though it retains touches of trademark smooth-jazz saxophone, debut album Family Portrait is more purposeful than his early work, full of pared-down, heady house and techno made with the dancefloor in mind.
