The strong-willed Princess Ida and her court sequester themselves in a castle, where they vow to study the high arts and swear off the company of men—including Ida's fiancé, Prince Hilarion. Unsurprisingly, the prince and his friends try desperately to win back the hearts of their beloveds, sparking the plot of a very fun musical.
