Donna Missal’s “Sick” makes another strong case for the triphop revival. Over a sublimely sluggish and thick funk beat and a blubbery, tensile bass line, Missal sings with the low-key, brazen allure of Morcheeba’s Skye Edwards or Tricky cohort Martina Topley-Bird. And don’t tell Drake, but Missal’s cover of “Hotline Bling” has way more girth and toughness than the original. Missal also has a folk-troubadour side, but no matter in which mode she’s working, her voice is an acrobatic instrument that will make you feel many of the feels. by Dave Segal
