Don’t tell the mythologizers of the Belleville Three, but I think second-wave Detroit techno DJ/producer Carl Craig’s output has been more interesting than Juan Atkins, Derrick May, and Kevin Saunderson’s. Which may be a controversial claim, but I think Craig has released more interesting and varied music under myriad aliases (Paperclip People, Innerzone Orchestra, 69, Psyche, BFC, etc.) over the last 30 years than his more revered predecessors—who are great, don't get me wrong. Craig has taken his Motor City elders’ blueprints to even farther reaches of techno’s interstellar metropolis.
