According to the event's Facebook description, this series began when visual artist  "Michael Maine wanted to do something to emphasize the Black excellence present in the King County area on daily basis" and decided to highlight Black notables in a photo series. Hear Maine interview his subjects at this event sponsored by the South Seattle Emerald.
