HUMP! 5: A Guide to the Smut That Made the Cut

Comments

1
What more is there to say?
2
I missed the short (short!) window to actually get tickets this year. Again. Damn it!
3
Show up with cash in hand and make friends in line. I bought extras last year (because the window was so short and I didn't know how many friends were actually going to come with) and easily sold mine outside before the show started. Good luck!
4
BRILLIANT!!! Y'all are going to have waaaay too much fun.
5
Please let the omission of Booker Hoss be a sign that we'll be spared his Juggalo-looking bullshit this year, please oh please...
6
I so want to know those 10 Portland locations.
7
For locals by locals? There's a word for that.
8
Please, please, pleeeeease make these available on DVD. Or maybe next year you could do a web-based screening for us non-seattlists. I've never been able to attend HUMP!, and that really sucks. For me, anyway.
9
@8's "Please, please" officially seconded! Some of us live in fetid wastelands (read: Phoenix, AZ), but wish with all our hearts to experience the glory HUMP seems to epitomize.
10
8+9=Not a chance. Online screenings can be video taped and a DVD would hugely limit the amount and types of submissions HUMP receives. From the webpage "People make films and give them to us; we make only two screening copies and return the originals. Our only copies are destroyed live onstage after the final screening." Without that caveat I know a lot of people that wouldn't submit anything at all.
11
Hey, Dan -- how can those of us who don't live in the area see Hump!5. Any downloading possibilities, or a DVD? We be glad to pay for it (I would, at least). --Jim v at www.TrustMovies.com
12
10: How about a few clips of the audience during the screening, then?
13
Now that is an idea I could totally get behind, 12.
14
Oh yeah, and @8- this is the first year that there's a couple screenings in Portland. You can totally find out what those 10 locations are, you just need to be nice to someone in line with a spare ticket.
15
Could someone remember/write down the director's name for Incubus and report here? That is some genius cinematography.
16
Incubus was amazing, and worth the entire cost of the ticket. I really hope this is one of the films that the creators release after Hump. It would be a crime to have it disappear forever.
17
For the budding directors and actors out there, can we get some data on what *doesn't* get accepted? Maybe the overall number of submissions, or some reasons why certain movies don't make the cut?
18
This was my first HUMP and I absolutely loved it, but was slightly traumatized by the fact that I didn't get to impress Dan Savage personally. My impressions, for whatever they are worth, are here. http://omg-sex.com/news/my-first-hump
19
Which entry was Lynn Shelton's?
20
Lynn Sheldon's was "BEYOND GAY" (The one that basically recreated the weird sexual dynamic of Humpday, except between a gay guy and a lesbian). It was a good clip, and I would not be at all surprise if it showed up somewhere on the DVD for Humpday (it had no nudity, so no worries in that department.)
21
Oh- and while I'm at it, can I just say that I'm not usually the type to yell during a movie, but at one point I seriously almost screamed out, "FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, TELL HER THE PASSWORD!!"

22
we need to do this monthly :)
23
@21, same.
24
Having been exposed to the deviancy that is Warren Ellis & his minions for the past several years, "The Password" didn't cause me to be more than mildly squeamish. And the old guy did get one solid laugh in with his "give me pain, but PLEASE don't humiliate me!" line.

Anal hooks on the other hand - that shit is just, um, ew. And I seriously thought at one point she was going to completely insert that ginormous butt-plug. Thank goodness the human body has its limits.
25
How To Please Your Man, and ET2 were the absolute best in the humor category. There were the usual ones that were boring and left me scratching my head on how they made it in. Some bitch behind me actually BARFED doing The Password. I felt awful for whoever had to clean that up.
26
Hey Hump directors... If you are interested in doing an encore screening of your film in Seattle next June, Seattle's True Independent Film Festival (STIFF) has just opened their call for submissions and I happen to know that they would love to program your film if you wanted to show it again. It is free to submit. www.trueindependent.org for details.
27
THE CLOWN!!!! Bwahahahahahahaha. Biggest laugh at Saturday's 8 pm show.
28
Is it wrong that I smiled while watching "The Password"?
29
@8, 9, & 11: i've been able to find previous hump entries online, at various sites which, obviously, don't ban certain kinds of content. google is your friend. (for this at least.)

quoting 10: "Without that caveat I know a lot of people that wouldn't submit anything at all."

this boggles me. you specifically make a movie, for a film festival like hump!, knowing hundreds (right?) will see it...yet you're somehow not okay with, um, more than a hundred seeing it. what's the difference? like all art, film, including what passes the cut for hump, deserves to be seen/experienced, and, in fact, is made to be seen/experienced.

if you can't handle people watching you fuck, don't tape it. unless the taboo, anonymity or self-perceived shame somehow gets you off...
30
This was my 1st Hump!.....so now what? When do the winners get announced?

I Came (Well, they did)

I Saw (Except for when I looked away, the hook)

Who Conquered?
31
#29- It's not a question of being a porn star in front of 1000 or 10000, its a question of being a porn star for a weekend or for life.
32
@29 - Boggle this buddy: I submitted work, and love to see like-minded folk appreciate it. Letting the interwebs have it is asking for others to see it, like my parents.

It's a distribution control issue, and buzz off if you can't figure that out.

@31 - bingo.
33
keep it local and fuck everyone who can't go! (that includes myself - only made it to hump2 and 3, god i miss seattle) The whole idea of showing em and destroying the tapes afterward allows everyone who wants to be a temporary porn star, and most likely enables a lot more people to share.
34
when do the results come out?
35
Get more info about incubus at

36
I love the fact that it gets destroyed afterwards... although I could watch "How to Please Your Man" over and over... the editing was great and her skills were awesome.

Love to go again next year.
37
Holy shit, the Incubus we saw was a cut of the 10 minute original!?

Please wait...
