Can't really blame them for not wanting it to turn in to Seattle redux. They left for a reason. This city has bent closer and closer to the Stranger's political views, but yet now you don't like it?

Privileged white people now are trying to convince other privllaged harm less fortunate people

Your paper which is a tool of urban developers has done more to ruin Seattle then anything else and now your trying to get people to leave .

For me, Spokane has been a great place to start behaving like an adult and parent. How much bar hopping is really gonna happen with a kindergartener and three year old? Beyond that, Seattle couldn't have gestated our business like Spokane has. It has allowed our creative endeavor to reach maturity of expression. Overall, I'd encourage anyone drawn to the city to come try it on for size. It's been a great home to us since we left Seattle 6 years ago.

As one who grew up in Spokane and has lived in Portland for 25+ years, I must say that the area just on the north side of the falls downtown, and west of Gonzaga campus, is begging to be gentrified. Within walking distance of downtown. Older houses not maintained, rented out to low income families, cheap property taxes. (In Portland, we call that neighborhood Felony Flats.) If I were to move to Spokane, I would snap up one of those cheap houses, fix it up, and live like a king after selling my ridiculously overpriced house in Portland. You Spokanites have no idea the treasure chest you're sitting on. Then again, there is that Spokane winter to deal with . . .

Okay, okay, I'll think about it-
Spokane...Spokane...Spokane...
Okay, done.

@5 you're late to that party. It's getting super developed right now. There's definitely gaps but it's happening quickly.

Moving back this summer after being gone for 17 years.
Been in Bellingham the last 3 years, and it was the final straw.
We are all well aware of the Seattle issues.
Bellingham has simply gotten too big for it's britches. It's "ideal" location between Vancouveer and Seattle we thought would suit our family well.
Our neighbours that work at the university here were seeing 4-6 applicants for jobs there. Now they are seeing 40-60, no joke.
Living here has been a struggle, and were simply tired of it.
Eager to be back with down to earth folks, saying goodbye to the arrogant, cold shoulder fucks...b'bye

"If Seattle keeps going the way it's going, a lot of us are going to need somewhere to flee to.". Huh? I realize I'm a little late to the party here, having just stumbled upon this article. The candidates the Stranger endorsed have all pretty much won. The Stranger worships development and we have built and built. A moderate does not stand a chance in hell of being elected in Seattle and those evil Nimby's have a greatly diminished, if not zero, political capital. Like Trump and the Republicans on the national level, you are pretty much in charge on the local level. So WTF? It's not working out that well?

I dunno - Spokane was the environment in which Rachel Dolezal throve. How's the Latino community doing? The Jewish and the Muslim communities?

Please wait...
