To sing karaoke is to embrace the moment your love of song transcends your love of self.

I think I would give a weeks pay to hear Rich Smith sing an Alanis Morissette song, when I sing karaoke I tend toward Sinatra songs they're slower and easier.

2

Try Ballard Brothers in Ballard on Thursday night.

The key to successful Karaoke is leave the mike on the stand, don't touch it, get low in an athletic stance and speak (dont sing) each word with a slight uplift at the end, work in some periodic fistpumps during the breaks, and always always focus on the drunkest face and sing directly to them. It works, I'm telling you.

Karaoke doesn't need your help, Rich. Karaoke is going to be just fine.

5

Rich I am legitimately in love with you, HMU

Also: ten years ago I headed to my neighborhood bar (the Crescent) to salve a fresh heartbreak with some karaoke. The reception I got from the early crowd of elder gays for my rendition of "Rocket Man" rates as one of the most moving experiences of my life.

Bar Sue on Sundays is where it's at.

Agree100% - except the part where you called my home town boring!
Love the Waterwheel Lounge in Ballard...

Best Karaoke I ever witnessed was two guys in Minneapolis doing "Istanbul (not Constantinople)" by They Might Be Giants, and passing the lines back and forth between them, also getting in the "do-do-do's" and "AHHHHHH's!" in the middle part.

Simple song but the attitude and delivery they gave sold it.

One other aspect of winning over a karaoke audience is picking the right song for the moment, like a DJ. If your song totally switches up the vibe, from fun to sad, you’ll be swimming upstream.

Three excellent karaoke joints THAT YOU MISSED - Goofy's in Ballard on Thursday and Friday nights, Lucky 7 Bar and Grill in Kirkland on Tuesday and Friday nights, and Blarney Stone Pub in downtown Seattle on Wednesday and Sunday nights. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you just haven't visited these places yet!

And The Atlantic Crossing used to have Karaoke, but I don't know if they still do.
