Iggy Pop, Patti Smith, Buzzcocks, Vivienne Westwood, et al were philosophically opposed to the oppression of LGBT and, in fact, they were strongly influenced by queer politics. It wasn't until the movement was embraced by the mainstream that it became a vessel for hatred and angst.
