Mr. Nicholas, I'd like to say that I disagree with you, but hope to do it in a manner that is not disagreeable. What I think you're missing here is that sometimes things are not so clear cut, not so black and white. As someone above pointed out, there are cases where a sex worker may know of a heinous crime committed by a client. Should the escort keep his or her mouth shut when they could expose a murderer, rapist or other violent criminal? I think even you might find it necessary to expose a client in a case like that. Mr. Jones obviously gave some thought to it before he came forward. He just made a different judgment call than you would have made in a difficult situation. Jones obviously was cutting his own throat professionally by outting Haggard. He exposed himself to criminal prosecution and threats to his life. If he's making a buck off talking about this dilemma, I think it's more likely because he's no longer able to make a living the way he used to do, rather than him having planned his "15 minutes of fame" from the start. He was in a tight spot where it would have been uncomfortable to speak or not to speak. In fact, he probably took the more difficult and more socially responsible path. He just made a different call than you would have made. If we're all going to be adults here and not be judgmental of others, let's give Mike Jones the benefit of the doubt rather than be 'holier than thou' (which is what ultimately let to Haggard's downfall).

To my knowledge, Mike Jones is no journalist, but I think it was perfectly ethical for him to expose Haggard.

Haggard isn't the worst of anti-gay bigots, but by preaching a relatively "moderate" line against gays from the pulpit, he helped enable the people like Lou Sheldon of the Traditional Values Coalition, with whom he had a professional relationship and whose organization is listed as an anti-gay hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. Haggard helped make the unhinged bigotry of people like Sheldon, James Dobson and Tony Perkins just a little more permissible.
