Tokyo!: The Greatness of Michel Gondry

Léos Carax’s ‘Merde,’ as in ‘Merde! I fell down le sewer again!’

This film is amazing. Three non-japanese directors creating three different shorts into one film that seamlessly brings together a pointed central theme. Beautiful.

Isn't that "too loud" quality kind of the appeal of Carax, though? To me, what makes him interesting is that what appears to be a perpetually exploding passion contrasts so starkly with both Gallic cool and the American tendency to turn such passion into schmaltz (which Carax seems too . . . well, violent in temperament to do.

I'm definitely curious 'bout this one.
