Okay, that first one was my comment. I'll note that I *liked* the music during the birds and bees scene. The music I specifically didn't like was during the finale.

Perhaps not *knowing* that the music was by John Adams is a reason to claim I'm uncultured, but not *liking* it: that's a matter of opinion even among us cultured types.

On the other hand, "eardrums blown out" indicates volume, not quality. I wouldn't have been so irritated by the music at the end if I hadn't been wishing for earplugs.

Nobody has to like it just because it's composed by a composer. What kind of a cultural ignorant are you?

@3 I adore John Adams. He's a truly world class composer. Anybody can be a composer. The number of people who can write like John Adams is significantly smaller, approaching, well, one. In other words, RonK, methinks you just answered your own question, about yourself. (Either that or perhaps it's a poorly phrased question. If you respond by trashing my opinion about John Adams, congrats, you've missed the point.)

I like that Mudede uses words like "numinous". Numinous is a necessary word.

I guess I just got called out on an opinion. Drat, I'm so ashamed to have opinions that a writer on the Stranger doesn't agree with.

I must have to rethink my entire opinion of that movie because someone with taste was involved.
7
Adams isn't a particularly minimalist composer any more. Much of the point of his career, I think, is that he transcended the dead-end minimalism of Glass and Reich.

The entire movie was a lesson in good taste, if you don't get it...try harder.

Please wait...
