I love the internet.

The only person who could possible live with plagiarizing Michael Bay, is Michael Bay. It's a line even Uwe Boll won't cross.
4
*possibly
5
Who cares that he re-used scenes? They weren't, and they were from his own movies at least. I think it's more amusing that someone would take the time to create this video... lol
6
*"worked", not "weren't"!
7
If it took recycling previous shots, so be it. This freeway scene is where the movie finally started, thank god.

First half: "Please get some action going so I can stop feeling queasy about your fucked up politics."

Second Half: "Hurray for big metal monsters doing amazing shit! Sorry about Chicago. Is Grant Achatz ok?"
8
This undermines my deep respect and admiration for Michael Bay's artistic integrity.

The best artists copy.....
10
Oh. Wow.
11
I'm just trying to understand how someone remembered what anything from The Island looked like. There's a tiny section of my brain that has "The Island" written across it, and there's just a picture of Scarlett Johansson floating around inside.
13
I'm far less bothered by a second or two of recycled footage than I am by entire movies that are recycled plots.

Not that this one was cutting edge innovative writing, but it did what it set out to do pretty well.

@9: "The best artists copy..... "

The quote is "good artists copy, GREAT artists steal".
15
holy shit those robots look awesome.
fuck. fuck fuck fuck. but this movie is so .. gross.
goddammit, michael bay. goddammit.

Reminder: during filming of this terrible movie, a 24 year old extra named Gabriella Cedillo was brain-injured and paralyzed. Buying a ticket to this soulless shitfest is supporting Michael Bay's right to maim young women.

@16, I can't say I liked the movie, but I think you're taking quite a leap here. Accidents happen. Would you suggest that no big movies should be made because an accident could happen? How about all the other areas of life where things could go wrong? Do you ever drive? Also, what does "soulless shitfest" have to do with the accident - aren't there good action/summer blockbuster movies and shitty little indie flicks too? Also also, Bay wasn't named in the lawsuit, so I assume that if there was any way to pin blame on him personally, it would have been done. To characterize what happened as him maiming young women is ridiculous.
18
To be clear, I think this was a terrible tragedy. But it didn't happen because Transformers 3 was shitty, and it doesn't automatically happen just because someone makes an action movie. If there was negligence it should be investigated, and it sounds like that's happened.

@16:

I was guessing that these two occurrences are related. Terrible incident happens filming a freeway scene, Chicago-area shooting is wrapped up slightly early, recycled footage gets used to flesh out... a freeway scene.

@17:

The reportedly had extras using their own personal vehicles, with no training, for a mere $25/day over the normal extra day-rate. Kind of a bullshit risk for a $195 million production to take in a stunt-zone, no?

20
So, it's THAT unimaginative.

How lazy do you have to be to recycle crap like that?
21
Two freakin shots! Come on! That scenes like a full five minutes, lay off the guy!
22
@20
And how anal does someone have to be to notice it if it isn't pointed out.

2 1/2 hours of movie, and someone actually sits there and says "Damn, now it's ruined! I've seen that SUV flip over before?"
23
@ 19, it may seem like it's a bullshit risk, but I have no idea what the norm is for shooting scenes such as this for big blockbuster movies. Maybe it's common practice. Anyone know?
24
@23, a better question is whether it's worth a chunk of a young woman's skull to have another summer "popcorn" movie for preteens and retarded adults, featuring giant wads of tin foil punching each other in the middle of yet another 9/11 exploitation.
25
@ 24, that's a pretty loaded question. Let's turn it around: would you feel better if the accident had occurred during the filming of a beautiful piece of cinematic craft? No? Me neither. So the quality of the film has little to do with the tragedy of Ms Cedillo.

Relevant questions might include: Is it standard industry practice to have extras use their own cars? Was there negligence in the failure of the weld? If so, on whose part and to what degree?

A technician was killed in a car crash during the making of The Dark Knight. Do you go after Christopher Nolan with equal ferocity? Tell me, why do you care so much about this accident? Did you know Ms. Cedillo? If so, I am very sorry about what happened; it must be a terrible time for her friends and family.

Please wait...
