Sorry still watching J Lo's ... Dress ...
3
@1) You crazy. This is riveting.
4
House Hunters! Why u no put granite counter tops?!
5
Watching house hunters is pointless, it's more fun to just go to open houses. House Hunters International however, is totally fascinating, and I watch that SH!t for hours! There was an episode where each house as a CAVE in SPAIN!
6
What's wrong with House Hunters? It's great! You clearly haven't seen the episodes with Vegas Tony!

7
@5, that's the one all my friends who still have cable swear by, the International one.
8
International is great...you get to see all of these exotic places and dream of the possibility of picking up and moving somewhere totally new.

And then you realize that most of the househunters are rich, self-entitled douches.

And then you realize that if, by chance, you ever did follow through and move to the antipodes, you'd be a rich, self-entitled douche as well, especially as far as the locals would be concerned.

Which kinda puts a damper on the whole thing as far as I'm concerned.
9
Home ownership is far overrated. House hunters is like watching a train weck. It makes me insane, and yet I can't look away.

International is so much better, but Corydon is correct, all of those people are douches. And the Americans buying abroad make us all look like douches by association.
10
House Hunters makes me want to slap people. Specifically the entitled fussy house hunters themselves. Eww that bathroom!!! Eww that kitchen!!! I could not live with it. It must be updated.

They all need a hard slap.
11
Whatever happened to Showhouse Showdown? That was actually pretty good.
12

I've watched hundreds of hours of House Hunters due to being entrained by the tv screens while on the stair climbers at 24 Hour Fitness. I must say, I get into it. One thing I can tell you, I've seen a whole lot of pretty nice 3-bedroom homes with big yards selling for $180,000 that sure make me think Seattle is a big rip...

13
"I hate the curtains--we can't buy this house!"
14
If they don't want to/can't afford to/don't know how to deal with the little stuff like paint colors, what are they going to do when pipes burst, wiring shorts out or the roof leaks?
15
@5: SHIT SHIT SHIT

Where did you think you were?
16
Ah, the poor couples who are expecting their first baby and are growing out of their old three-bedroom two-bath houses that have only 2,500 square feet, and the yard is too small.

The other repeat theme is the couple who have been living in the guy's parents house in his old room. She's trying to get a real house and lock him in. He's trying to figure out how he can still party while having to add a $1300 a month payment to his budget. She wants a swing set and dog walk in the park. He wants to be close to downtown so he can still parachute out of the thing.

18
If one is voluntarily watching House Hunters ... er ... um ... right.

Yeah, good luck with that.
19
If you're depressed by news stories, and if you hate detective novels, and if you're sick of the 17th iteration of upstairs/downstairs period BBC dramas, House Hunters serves a purpose.
20
"I could really see us eating in this dining room."
21
I like "House Hunters" and I'll tolerate some "House Hunters International"...but if you really want to hold my interest for a half-hour, give me some classic "Property Virgins" (w/Sandy...haven't quite warmed up to Egypt yet.)
22
It's all a set up! Google the hell out of it. They don't like the paint in the guest bedroom because they already own the house they choose. We've been had.

We have a fantastic house directly on the ocean - Kenya Coast. 5beds and baths - updated Coastal Swahili design. No douches here. Beautiful hideaway - no hotels no tourists - all services (Electric+water) once in a lifetime opp - never been on House Hunters either - This one's just for you!
25
@8 ehm... what do you think those caves cost like? Do you think that theres this huge community of fiesty and colourful locals? Housing is shit expensive in Spain and you kinda HAVE to be rich to move there...

@most in the thread.
Also FYI about dreaming yourself away. The reason I started reading the Stranger and commenting here is because me and my husband have plans to move to Seattle. We live in Gothenburg, Sweden, in an area called Majorna known for the building type called landshövdingahus ( http://static.beta.pixgallery.com/images… ) and its culture-centric community.

My point is that for everyone of you dreaming to move away - someone else is dreaming to move to where you are.

Watching House Hunters is a lot more fun if you play this game:
Every time one of the potential buyers says "OH WOW" you drink a shot of tequila.
You'll never make it to the second episode.
27
@22 My parents love House Hunters. They watch it constantly, even when I'm visiting. I can't stand it.

Should I tell them the truth next time I visit...? ;)
28
My husband and I watch it from time to time, and he gets tickled with all the discussion of storage. "There's not enough storage here," or "OOOOOOH! Look at all the storage!" He says "What do straight people need all that storage for?"
29
@28, Shattered hopes and dreams?
30
All I got to say is, with my wife and I making just shy of 6 figures, the lack of decent houses in Seattle in our price range is insane.

At this point, I'd pretty much settle for anything with grounded outlets.
31
This show, and moreso with Property Virgins are probably the only things on television that will actually make me yell at my TV. "...but it's not as nice as granite countertops/stainless steel appliances/some weird luxury item their parents have in their kitchen" "...and we could have family bbq's out here." "...I dunno about this stair case with Caitlin and Gunner so young."

SHUT THE FUCK UP! YOU CAN'T COOK! NO ON IS COMING TO YOUR FUCKING BBQ! AND HOLY JESUS, REALLY?! KIDS CAN'T CLIMB STAIRS!? ARE YOUR SURE YOUNG CAN'T OPERATE A PAINT BRUSH, DIPSHITS???!!!

I'm like your drunk uncle watching the Superbowl when this shit is on.

@30 Assuming you're both pre-qualified, two people making nearly 6 figures have absolutely no problems buying a beautiful house in Seattle. You're Realtor won't tell you this, but you're being weird.
32
@8 House Hunters International has indeed resulted in a whole lot of rich, self-entitled douches buying up property here in Ecuador. They don't know shit about the culture, they haven't done their homework and they are wholly unprepared for the challenges of South America but figure their money and status as American citizens will insulate them. They're particularly rampant in Cuenca, where I had the misfortune of explaining to several of them that yes, they actually do need to learn Spanish to live here. Ecuadorians provide great hospitality but these people are really testing it.
33
@31: You would be surprised. Of course, the time of year isn't helping.

Please wait...
