At the risk of sounding mean: Dan has to be the oldest, grayest star of an MTV show in its history. Which, I think is a good thing. Diversity and all of that. Also, sorry for sounding mean.
@4, yeah, almost everybody on MTV is older than Dan, aside from the reality stars. You ever see That Metal Show? Everybody on there looks to be in their seventies. Or is that VH1? Remember Ozzie Osborne?
Congrats Dan & everyone involved in the show. Looks like a great show to watch.
(unlike the State Farm commercial where I learned that Kanye West doesn't wash is panties because you can't wash 'em when they're bunched, er....I mean he just buys new ones.)
great, I started it, and scrolled down to read while that retarded state farm ad was up, then heard the clip; by the time i scrolled back up it was over
I clicked replay and it played the ad again so i decided it wasn't worth watching.
@4 Kurt Loder was way older. (Is way older?) And chic-ly gray in a silver fox kind of way. However, just remembering that dude means I'm way too old for Mtv.
@34, @33 Kurt Loder hates Obama. He said a footstool would be an improvement over him, if I remember from an old Politico article. I think he supports, or supported, Ron Paul, all of which makes him sound like a small-government libertarian.
Hee! Yes, AFTAH, this will definitely work. Just like JCPenney totally ditched Ellen as a spokesperson after pressure from a similar crazy Xtian group.
Looking forward to Dan's advice being available in video form, to go along with the print and audio editions ... what's next? I vote for shadow-puppets.
I'm with Banna @2. I grew up watching music videos on MTV, interspersed with news and specials about music. I watched music videos and other musical content dwindle away to nothing or nearly so over the years. Then I discovered MTV2 about 10-12 years ago when I had satellite TV, I was so happy! An MTV that actually has music videos and related content. Sadly, I had to go back to cable to get decent broadband Internet, and lost access to MTV2 in the process. On occasion VH1 plays some videos, or has music related programming, which is comforting. Otherwise, my only access to music videos would be when I buy them on iTunes.
I'm glad to see MTV is moving to better programming with content like Dan's show. It had become the network known for lowest-class reality TV.
Re: no videos on Mtv VH1: Ya'll just have to watch at the right time. Which would be early in the morning. I watch videos with my breakfast at 6 to 7am.
Funny how so many cable networks start with a particular theme in mind, then -- gradually or abruptly -- change over to the same shit everyone else is doing.
I remember when TLC stood for The Learning Channel, MTV stood for Music Television, VH1 for Video Hits, A&E for Arts and Entertainment, and Syfy was named Sci-Fi and had all science fiction and some very closely related genres. I remember when Bravo was highbrow, and AMC meant American Movie Classics and they actually showed classic movies, not Lake Placid and CSI: Miami.
(AMC gets some leniency for the quality of its series, but they're still not movies dammit!)
Dan, I've been loving on you (well, your writing for sure) for many, many years. The news that you're bringing your charming self to TV is happy, indeed!
I SO look forward to your new show, SAVAGE U on MTV, beginning it's sure-to-be-a-long-run show on April 3.
BTW: This "fan note" is coming from a 67-year-old white guy who lives in Dallas, Texas. The older demographic isn't all nodding off in nursing homes! And we've got "disposable incomes" with which to purchase from your advertisers, too. GOOD LUCK, DAN!
And I'm sorry but Lauren can suck it, I hate it when guys shave down there. Jesus, straight women and their "clean" sex.
he will be in much better company with the people that bring us cultural touchstones like 16 and pregnant and jersey shore
Dan was one guy without Santorum's budget or political clout.
When David beats Goliath no one claims that David was a big bully meany head and Goliath was a poor victim.

ha lol
FYI David Schmader, I sent you an email!
