The 3D is just a bullshit excuse. This is clearly because Battleship is tanking badly (can't risk another toy movie) and up against Avengers and TDKR its a tough summer to play into.
For the last few summers, there's been a concern that some blockbuster will miss it's release date by having an overly-aggressive plan for post-production, and the teams simply can't get the visual effects done in time. This almost happened last year with Green Lantern, and they only got around it by shoveling cash at every effects studio with available resources...I wonder if the 3D conversion is just a cover-up for the film not being done in time, and it lets them save some face by saying it's a business decision rather than a screw-up...
It might not necessarily stink. They are doing this for international audiences which have become the more profitable markets for movies. International audiences seem to love 3D movies while American audiences are more meh about it. The Atlantic did an article about this trend recently. more and more studios are catering to the international market since that is where more and more of the profit is coming from. It's why Captain America was titled The First Avenger outside of the US, so it would do better in Russia and other countries.
Just sayin'.
Hahahahhhhah
What happens to the toys? They're already on pre-order.
