Forget about the silliness of a man in a rubber dinosaur suit for a second and just think about the perfect simplicity of the concept behind Godzilla. It’s more than just our nuclear fears made manifest: Godzilla is the modernization of an angry Old Testament God who can destroy all our greatest achievements with a glancing kick. This weekend, SIFF is showing a selection of Godzilla films headlined by the original, un-dubbed, uncut film, with “40 minutes of unseen footage and completely revised subtitles.” Shake off your predisposition toward irony and prepare to be awed. (SIFF Cinema Uptown, 511 Queen Anne Ave N, siff.net, 5:15 and 7:30 pm, $11, May 2-8)
