I can't suspend my disbelief anymore when it comes to stories like this, and I have to wonder when they'll finally disappear. Science fiction stories at least have the potential to come true some day - but ghosts have never existed, and never will.
So every entertainment has to be "believable"? Based on a "true story"? How pathetic and threadbare; stories should be told no matter their provenance. Do you just want to hear about people exactly like you? Everything is fiction!
We are, by nature, a narrative animal, and I think we ultimately learn and grow, are arguably more edified and, in most cases, more entertained by stories that remove us at least a few steps from the literal realities and usual paths of correlation we deal with day to day.
Frankly, I wonder how little real life people have that they feel they need it to be reflected literally (as opposed to symbolically, since even the most fanciful stories don't arise in a vacuum) in their art.
