How fascinating. It never occurred to me that the overly-stylized wardrobes and brilliant, verbose dialogue were cues that the film took place in the 1960s. I always thought that it was set in the 1980s, but that the exclusive world of Manhattan prep school graduates was so alien and sophisticated in comparison to that of the lives of myself and my friends, that it was like an anthropological case study of young adults who were better-educated and from far-wealthier families than I would ever meet in real life.
