SNOWPIERCER!? You can't expect to write an article on train related movies and not even mention one so recent, that exists entirely on "A TRAIN".
2
@1, Oh that's a good one.

I immediately thought of "Trainspotting," which I know is not so much about trains as drugs, but it has a few trainspotting moments.
3
Some other good train movies: "Closely Watched Trains", "The Train", "Emperor of the North (Pole)", "Silver Streak", "Breakheart Pass", and many many others.
4
Add "Third Ave. El" to the list. It's a wonderful short film about the Third Avenue elevated railway line that ran from the Bowery to the Bronx.

"Castro Street" by Bruce Baillie. From 1966. One of the most beautiful films ever made. It's on a new blu-ray anthology of experimental film, at Scarecrow.

"The Wonder Ring" by Stan Brakhage (and I think Joseph Cornell was involved as well). On volume 2 of the Criterion Brakhage anthology.

Also, "Runaway Train." Amazing film with stunning footage of the snowy northern wilderness.

The bad guy in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" wants to dismantle LA's public transit system and replace it with menacing freeways!

Haven't caught up with the critical re-assessment of Tony Scott??? Taking Of Pelham 123 is master look at postmodern aesthetics paired up with valences of industrial technology, check it!

Please wait...
