BARRY: There is nothing presidential in Devon Terrell’s very entertaining portrayal. Linda Kallerus/Netflix

I thought this movie was unbelievably boring and pointless. Barack Obama is one of the most interesting people in the world, with a fascinating personal history and they reduced him to "guy who doesn't feel like he fits in anywhere." I eagerly awaited the film's release on Netflix and would give it negative stars if I could.

Oh and I lived in NYC in my 20s and had a more interesting time than Barry did. How someone could be in NYC and truly have the most incredibly boring existence ever is beyond me.

Great review, Charles. It sounds like a good John Sayles/Wayne Wang type movie, except one of the characters happens to be a guy who one day becomes President of the United States. At least that is what I hope it is. If it gives a strong portrayal of what life was like in NYC back then, along with a handful of interesting quotes and more interesting characters, it is my kind of movie.

Maybe this is too gimmicky, but what if they followed up with sequels, as the actor ages?

Part II: Barak
Part III: Yes We Can

(I know those were not great titles, just a general idea...)

Please wait...
