Hrm, I stopped watching Nye early on because it was a little too... layperson for me (I mean it is science advocacy and not much of an illustrative documentary) but I'll give it another shot!

Whatever scientific credibility -much less respectability- Bill Nye once had, it's gone zooming out the window in this new show which features an execrable dance video entitled (I am NOT making this up); “my vagina has its own voice”. It has to be seen to be believed. An arrant travesty, a bloody mess, a quite literally insane song and dance, sung (a charitable description of her efforts) by Rachel Bloom, with lines like; "Who enjoys a fleshlight in the cold moonlight?"

The show was written by Phil Plait who really should have known better.

@2: Plenty of her songs have lyrics that make much more sense in context.

The show seemed to have a near-Panto sort of tone, reminded of the recent (Brian Cox & Eric Idle) The Entire Universe production. I kept expecting the audience to yell back or Nye to show up in drag...

While the ep i saw wasn't my cup of tea (perhaps more for the I Fucking Love Science crowd?), but your concerns about Plait and Nye's credibility are a stretch. Nye's always been as silly as he is serious, Plait can make as many jokes as he wants, and neither one's beliefs are out of sorts because you got the vapors about a song.

I'll still give it an honest shot, and if I don't vibe with the format it certainly won't discredit anyone, a wasted opportunity for engagement at the very worst.

@3: Ooh, life's hard outside of the Hallmark channel and Fox News. So hard.

Mr. Wizard was bad ass, and better than Nye ever was.

I am unsure what the audience is supposed to be for Nye's show, it seems too lame and "try-hard" for an cynical older teen audience, and they are apparently singing about butt stuff and fleshlights, so it can't be for viewers who are too much younger than that, and I doubt it is for adults.

@5: Pretty sure it's intended for full adults.

Please wait...
