The Grand Illusion was the first theater opened by the owner of the Seven Gables Theater Co., an independent chain that would over time come to include all of the other theaters that Charles mentioned in his piece, prior to being sold to Landmark in 1989. The fact that Landmark has subsequently fallen apart just means that the Grand Illusion once again distinguishes itself in a sea of chain theaters.
