For a change, I agree with @1.

I'm a fan of both Malek and Hunnam. But when I heard about this remake, my first reaction was: "Why do this?" The original 1973 film is pretty fucking fantastic, and featured some pretty unique performances. It is hard to imagine a remake being better.

Apparently, it isn't.

Oh good...another fucking remake. Hollywood really needs to be bombed out of existence

You’re right: Charlie Hunnam is no Steve McQueen. But then Steve McQueen was no Jean Gabin.

I was shocked at the laziness of your "Papillon" review. You said "for real drama, see the original." But since the original was in 1973, are you relying on your 45 year-old memory for it? When was the last time you saw the original? Maybe you should look at it again and see how dated and melodramatic it really is. It's fine if you don't like the 2018 version, but to just toss it off and say "it's not as good as the 1973 original" means that you did not do your homework for your review. But I guess anyone can call themselves a "movie critic" these days...
