It Rhymes with the Rom-Coms of the 1990s ... and the 1810s

The boys are back in town.

I feel guilty, but I just have zero interest in this and the new Queer as Folk. Maybe it’s just Where I’m at Now.

The trailer for Bros also looks terrible. Could be a great movie with a lame trailer, but I can’t take another film about men who’re still afraid of commitment—especially after 40 is in the rearview mirror. Adam & Steve covered this hilariously and that was almost 20 years ago (((gulp!!!)))

At first I found the stereotypes an affront. Then, the rapid, firing range yappiness of the conversations started getting on my nerves Do we need to do a little meth to take it all in? Must have had to 10-second rewind a hundred times to catch it all. There are some really funny lines and some nice reality checks like when a character bitches about a box of Cheez-its being $12 at the Pines Pantry (everything on Fire Island is priced for at least a mid-six-figure salary and has been that way - adjusted for inflation - since the 70s). Best thing though was the surprisingly literate, bittersweet ending. Not a waste of time.

YAWN!

5

It perpetuates the stereotype that gay people are all servers at restaurants.

8

Not a good endorsement. 90's gay movies were universally the biggest piles of shit ever to come out of US entertainment
