Are you insane? It's absurdist fantasy, with eleventeen sexual and other overtones. Knowledge?!? Of fucking what? It's a tone poem for the eyes and brain. It's completely fucking brilliant.
Some people don't know how to relax and have a good time. Sheesh.
@3 Gilliam isn't saying anything he hasn't said before. I enjoyed the goofy humor and the funky visuals, but all that stuff about the meaningless of existence? Been there, done that. If you really think he was just having absurdist fun, I recommend reading Gilliam on Gilliam. He takes his work more than a little seriously, and few things piss him off more than The Man (however you choose to define that term).
@2 I'm as shocked as you are. I saw the release coming but didn't bother trying to get it since I thought we wouldn't have a chance. Then they asked us if we could show it. FYI, blu-ray is about the same quality as the standard 2K DCP you get in almost all cinemas these days.
Can't wait to have a dvd I can freeze-frame to appreciate all the jokes that must be buried in those street scenes. (Did you see the sign prohibiting ladies with cat heads?) But I agree the rest of the movie was not very interesting. The whole conception of the character of Bainsley was dull. I liked the kid. Not a well-written character either, but he brought some life to it.
