I'm so glad to see Stewart honored here. I took his class at UW back in the 90s. He was the first elderly person I'd ever met who could be totally compelling just talking about his life. One night, he just randomly brought Paul Newman to class! Mr. Newman brought take-out teriyaki and stayed for the whole class, even helped teach. I could tell they were great old friends. I feel incredibly lucky to have known Stewart and to have been his student.
