Smash Putt!

Three friends of mine and I went on the first night and wanted to like this, but it just wasn't fun, and it WAS expensive.

Here was our experience with the 10 holes: The turntables, scooter, and whirling obstacles holes worked well. The last hole featured two nearly-impossible-to-play hills but everything did work. Everything else seemed to have issues. The ferris wheel didn't work. The catapult didn't work. The "wrong hole" hole didn't do any switching. We couldn't fire the cannon because it was "out of balls", and besides, that wasn't really a "hole" because you didn't get a score. We waited 30 minutes for the "Indiana Jones" hole because nobody could hit it into the bucket as the balls kept jumping the rails and then you needed to start over. The foosball hole looked great and was working but wasn't really a playable hole -- the instructions stated that your score was based on what hole you got it in but didn't identify what holes scored what.

It was $10 for the first night, and $15 regularly, for 10 holes of mini golf. Newcastle charges $10 for 18 holes of well-manicured real grass holes. Interbay charges $8 for 18 holes of standard (semi-boring) mini golf. The price for this is about twice the market rate, and so I'd expect that things would be well-tested and working tightly. Unfortunately, that just wasn't the case the first night.

I've been and all the crap that Corey B is complaining about has been fixed. We had a great time and I got a hole in one on the Indiana Jones Hole. My guess is this guy chipped his manicure or some BS like that... this is serious fun and an awesome use of a building soon scheduled for demolishing, etc.

I went opening night and had a great time.
Here's some photos from that night:

I'm going again Saturday night.

@1: The HazardFactory people said they'd had many technical problems the first night, but they were all ironed out by night #2, last Saturday.

I went last Saturday, and it was unbelievably fun! I'm a mini-golf geek, no pro, but I love to play, and Smash Putt was the most unique round I've ever played. We had to take pictures of each hole because it was just so creative and fun.

Enjoy it while you can!

Please wait...
