All over our fair city today, there is free wine for you (unless you're an actual wino, and thus unlikely to be welcomed—life is cruel). In Sodo, behemoth wine emporium Esquin offers samples of "BIG BOYS," Washington cabernet and blends. On Capitol Hill, you may compare the hospitality of 12th & Olive Wine Company with that of Vino Verité. On Denny near First Avenue North, the charming French owner of Champion Wine Cellars gives tastes all afternoon long (novices welcome!). Then there's McCarthy & Schiering, Ravenna and Queen Anne; upstairs at DeLaurenti in Pike Place Market (bonus: usually cheese!); and in Ballard, the lovely but not-too-schmancy Portalis. Bring $10 and a friend, buy something, and go drink it afterward. (See for more info)
