The NLT version - "The siege and terrible distress of the enemy's attack will be so severe that you will eat the flesh of your own sons and daughters, whom the LORD your God has given you."

Yawn.
2
"The most gentle and sensitive woman among you—so sensitive and gentle that she would not venture to touch the ground with the sole of her foot—will begrudge the husband she loves and her own son or daughter 57 the afterbirth from her womb and the children she bears. For in her dire need she intends to eat them secretly because of the suffering your enemy will inflict on you during the siege of your cities."

--if you don't obey God.

...but He LOVES you.

Gross.

this is about the placenta, it's Grrr-eat!
5
enough with the OT.
6
Max for the win.

Children: Not just for breakfast anymore!

But they're so much more tender than the adults, Urgutha.

Deuteronomy 28 is an extended description of all the good things that will happen to the Israelites if they obey the laws written out in Deuteronomy as a whole, and all the bad things that will happen to them if they don't. One of those bad things: their cities will be besieged until they run out of food and get so hungry they eat their kids.

Cannibalism is something that just about anyone will do if they get hungry enough, and it proceeds in an orderly fashion: first they eat the corpses of strangers, then the corpses of relatives, then live slaves, and finally down to their own family. Children, being weak, are eaten before adults.

WE ARE -- PENN STATE!

As @13 notes, this chapter lays out the blessings available to Israel if it is righteous or the calamities that await if it turns away.
This verse describes some of the desperate appalling measures that the inhabitants of Jerusalem would resort to while besieged.
At least twice children were eaten during sieges of Jerusalem; when the city fell to Babylonian forces under Nebuchadnezzar and when Titus took Jerusalem in 70AD.
Josephus, in 'Wars of the Jews,' (bks 5 and 6) gives grim details of cannibalism during the Roman siege.

We fail to see what gratification Goldy derives from mocking this horrific episode from the history of his people.
16
Eat the priests and preachers, imams and rabbis first. With a nice little wine sauce.
18
It reminds me of that awful gore comic book, what's it called, Crossed?
19
Julia Child in "The French Chief" had a delightful episode where she cooks up a young new born infant. And Julia said that the meat is so tender and flavorful that you just can't say no to seconds.

The public broadcast station in Boston wasn't very thrilled about showing the episode though..."controversial" or some other such rubbish.
20
Jesus also prophesied of the fate that awaited Jerusalem:

Speaking of the splendorous Temple of Herod "Seest thou these great buildings? there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down."

And alluding to the events Goldy posted; Jesus said to the women that followed him to the cross, bewailing and lamenting; "Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children. For, behold, the days are coming, in the which they shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which never gave suck...."

35 years later it would come to pass.

1,100,000 Jews were killed in the siege and another 100,000 sold into slavery.

The walls of the Temple were completely torn down even into the foundation (possibly motivated by search for hidden Temple treasure) such that Josephus said "that there was left nothing to make those that came thither believe it [Jerusalem] had ever been inhabited."

The Temple has never been rebuilt.

The Jews that were not slaughtered were scattered through out the world.

It would be 2000 years before they would inhabit Jerusalem again.
21
Yeah, enough with the OT. That doesn't "count." Neither does The Ten commandments, Original Sin, nor the Creation of The Universe.
22
Huh huh... I think that's what people call 'symbolism' Beavis... huh huh...
23
@ 22, THE BIBLE IS THE LITERAL TRUTH.
24
That is grossly out of context. G-d said this is what's going to happen if you don't follow the rules, and allow yourself to get all depressed and emo and stupid. It's not an actual commandment, it's a warning.
25
@5: Why? The stuff in the Old Testament is less straightforward and requires a more in-depth reading. The teachings of Jesus were a populist movement teaching universal love over individual greed and corruption. The Old Testament as given to Moses was a framework for an entirely new society, and is understandably more complex.
@24: This.
To Alleged, the highly distressed christfag:
Look at the bloodshed between different sects of Christianity. Compare that to the relations between different branches of Judaism. I wouldn't say that we're the ones eating our own.
26
I recommend one of these. http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Vintage-PRESTO-Fr… Fruit of the womb Tartare isn't for everyone, plus you can make some onion rings on the side.
27
@24: Oh my God... somebody quote the Bible out of context! You're not suggest that that's wrong, are you?
28
25
It does seem that one actually has to believe in a religion
and give a shit about it
before one is inclined to fight for ones beliefs....
Sometimes the competition of ideas gets nasty.
But you have to have some ideas
and ideals
you care about to play the game.

So Goldy can mock his own scripture and people and congratulate himself for being so open minded and hip.

Quality over quantity, isn't that what you called it?
29
27 what delight do you find in the fact that the Jews were besieged and resorted to eating their own children? this is funny, how?.....
30
I just went vegan.

@28 said:

Sir, are we to take it that you are willing to maim and kill in the name of religion?

If so, then I am quite sure that we would all be better off without you or your ilk.

I would posit that there are things worth killing others for, but religious beliefs are not amongst them.
33
32

sir, you are to take it and shove it up your ass.

backwards.

we are observing that people who feel strongly about their beliefs sometimes fight for/about them.

as a follow up to Juniors observations that Jews are apathetic about their beliefs.
34
31

That's interesting. Cause we were making the point that left-wing 'humanists' use out of context bible quotes to validate THEIR personal bigotry.
35
IF you "took the bait" by reading this post and writing an apologetic or defensive reply.....YOU LOSE.

It's a fucking joke taken from a book of jokes.
36
@28: How about Christians burning all copies of the Bible that weren't the KJV, claiming that they were satanical? How about the persecution of the Monophysites at the hands of the Eastern Orthodox Church? That's not fighting for your beliefs; that's oppressing and massacring your neighbors because their beliefs differ from yours by an infinitesimally small amount.
@33: Apathetic about our beliefs? You mean that we don't murder people for believing differently? We keep a true faith; we don't need to try and prove anything to nonbelievers. God will judge them by their actions, and we have bigger fish to fry.
This is the difference between people like me and Kim in Portland, who don't worry too much about other people believing differently, and people like you and Osama bin Laden, who believe that they're insufficiently faithful if they're not willing to kill people different from them. If I may just give a quote attributed to Mohammed, the last prophet of Islam: "The ink of the scholar is holier than the blood of the martyr." (The isnad of this hadith is somewhat questionable, though; it's not entirely clear whether Mohammed actually said this.)
37
It's not the first time the eating of children is used (as a threat/to titillate) - not by a long shot:
Ezekiel 5:10
Lamentations 4:10
Lamentations 2:20
2 Kings 6:29
Leviticus 26:29
Jeremiah 19:9
Psalm 44:11

Mind you, Deut 12:20 says: "When the LORD thy God shall enlarge thy border, as he hath promised thee, and thou shalt say, I will eat flesh, because thy soul longeth to eat flesh; thou mayest eat flesh, whatsoever thy soul lusteth after."

So, YAY for ....uhm... flesh!
Exodus 16:12 gives a warning about eating flesh though, and what you'll turn into in the morning... =)
and 2 Sam 12:3-12:5 tells about a ewe lamb raised by a poor man who considered the lamb his daughter, and then they ate her, too.

@24 and the 1st paragraph of 13 are fairly right:

It's all lessons and allegory anyway, children.
38
36

No. We mean apathetic.
As a Pew Forum Survey measuring Americans' attitudes toward their religion revealed.
In areas like religious service attendance, belief in God, prayer, scripture reading and 'how important my religion is to me' Jews score lowest in the nation, challenging atheists for the bottom.

Only 5% of Jews believe their religion is the true faith leading to eternal life.
Only 10% of Jews cite their religion as the biggest influence on their views of Right and Wrong.
Only 30% of Jews claim their religion is very important in their life.

It is perfectly fine to be apathetic about ones religion.

And it is unlikely that people who don't care what they believe are going to care much about what others believe.

It seems the Theological Moral High Ground is a sparsely occupied spot....

39
@24
Nice try, but the same people who try to impose all the biblical literality on everyone they don't like are the ones saying exactly that nobody in society is following God's rules.

If you say that God has declared that you aren't following the rules because you read the Bible as literal and unavoidable commands, then you can't ignore that God has declared cannibalism similarly mandatory.

That is, if each verse stands alone.

If not, then get the fuck off the backs of gay people.
40
36

Junior, we genuinely don't get your hostility toward 'christianity' in this post.

A Jew post an exert from Jewish scripture in which a Jewish prophet warns that Jewish women will eat their own Jewish babies to survive sieges and the Jewish Messiah reiterated the claim of the Jewish prophet and a Jewish historian describes in great detail how in fact Jewish mothers ate their Jewish children during the siege as predicted by Jewish prophets and you somehow are angry about 'christians' burning bibles?

Really?

You should look into counseling to help you cope with your hostility toward 'christians'....

It really isn't healthy.

41
I got that on an Alaska Airlines prayer card, once.
42
@38: A Pew Forum Survey also revealed that iguanas love tire swings, that eating kiwifruit causes blithering meningitis, and that your mother is a raddled gutter whore.
It's easy to say things when you don't have any proof.
43
Deuteronomy 28 exemplifies what I said last week. The Bible was written by people who thought that God creates natural disasters, and disease to punish unbelievers. They didn't know that the Earth has processes that happen regardless of the beliefs of the people affected, or that there are microscopic organisms that can cause people to get sick. We should not still be following this ancient mythology.
44
@39 "God has declared cannibalism similarly mandatory."?
Really?
Wow you are embarrassingly stupid.
This verse is Moses telling the people what they will do, not God telling them what they must do.
Your 4th grade English teacher would like a world with you, retard.
45
@43 Really?
Cause Moses seems to have pretty much nailed what would become of them, centuries in advance.
They probably were all "hell no- we'd never eat our baaaaybeees, man" but fast forward 1500 years and they are all "pass the sauce- hey are you going to eat those toes?"
Pretty damn impressive if you ask us.
46
@43 It's easy to be smug but HomoLiberals still think Reagan caused AIDS and their Anal Warts.
Maybe you should put out the word about those little bitty critters that make people sick in the Gay Bars in Baltimore. Did you know that the CDC found that 38% of the sexually active homosexuals in Baltimore have HIV? Damn Reagan. Damn him strait to Hell.....
47
42
well
you're just Slogs own little Herman Cain, aren't you.....
48
@47: I AM the President of Uzbeki-beki-beki-stan-stan, and Herman Cain should know it.
49
45, 46, If you want to believe that earthquakes, storms, diseases, etc, are magically sent to Earth because your god is angry, be my guest.
50
All I have gathered from years of reading arguments and debates criticizing or defending the Bible is that both sides ONLY USE verses from the Bible OUT OF CONTEXT in order to support their biased opinion. Unfortunately, the only thing that I've learned is that everyone that posts on the internet is retarded and lives a meaningless life. They only try to find meaning by being the smartest retard on the internet. We all lose.

Please wait...
