At last year’s first-ever Bug Banquet, the menu included deep-fried tempura tarantula, teriyaki locusts on skewers, mealworm pâté, orzo with cricket nymphs, a salad garnished with Changbai ants, and (fly-free) shoofly pie. It was all surprisingly ungross! Cafe Racer was dressed up with white tablecloths, David George Gordon (bug chef and author of The Eat-a-Bug Cookbook) was goofy and informative, God’s Favorite Beefcake played, and everybody had a great time. Go eat some bugs! (Cafe Racer, 5828 Roosevelt Way NE, 523-5282, 7 pm, $25)
