@1: what do we need, then? maybe you should just buy your tins of octopus at the Spanish Table and stay home.

given current rents, decent ingredients, decent wine, decent mixed drinks, and decent décor cannot be provided at prices much lower than JarrBar. even cheap drinks like you get at, say, a middle-class joint like the Wedgwood Broiler are $7.

@3 mcdonald's and subway are always there for you, @1 and anyone else who feels that calories per dollar are the most important consideration in their food choices. nobody's forcing you to go to jarrbar or any other place offering "Novel Cuisine".

@5 if you mean "mindlessly slapping a pre-made puck of industrially processed "fewd" into the microwave" then, yes, you are correct; they actually cook at mcdonald's.

I don't want to go somewhere that opens canned food for me. How much do you even tip for that?

Like a lot of Seattleites, I'm rather burnt out on the "$16 for a plate of carrots" food scene, which is why I love Jarr Barr. I can hardly think of a better place downtown to while away a few hours sipping wine in a great space (the decoration is superb) without breaking the bank. Fantastic wine selection. Small snacks with a theme that is carried through. A tiny space maximized to its potential. You almost forget you're in Seattle. Let's hope that the rolling out of the ambitious sibling will not be at the expense of the original.

Please wait...
