Technically, this isn't a "General Porpoise", but rather, based on the scrambled eggs on the cap and the (arguably somewhat fuzzy) sleeve rank insignias, a "Rear Admiral Porpoise".

At the time that this General Porpoise was opening, my partner, Jay Guerrero, was chef de cuisine at Bar Melusine. Renee Erickson and Jeremy Price commissioned me to paint this - Jeremy had an uncredited, photoshopped pic from the internet that was the inspiration. I hadn't oil painted since art school - my usual illustration style is pretty different from this. I painted it while binge-watching Gilmore Girls! Glad you like it.
