As the son of an Italian immigrant, one who spent many, many summers at my grandparents' home in Rome and has eaten gelato more times than a person can count, I consider myself somewhat of an amateur gelato expert, if only from quantity of exposure. And I can tell you this: D'Ambrosio is a gem here in Seattle. I've been there probably ten times already, and I live nowhere near Ballard.
I have always been disappointed with pretty much every gelateria I've been to in the States, but I've always kept looking. And then I found D'Ambrosio and I was done. This place has the best gelato I've ever had outside of Italy and better than most of what I've had in Italy. Just phenomenal.
I can't walk by this place without stopping in for a gellato. Every flavor I have had has been one of the best things I have ever eaten. Marco is also wonderfully friendly, his shop is one of my favorite places in the city.
I live within walking distance of D'Ambrosio, which is downright dangerous. Their gelato is just amazing. It tastes incredibly rich and has the most intense, delicious flavor (yet is lower in fat and calories than ice cream - how great is that?!?). I'm not even an ice cream eater, and I can't get enough of this stuff. Yum.

Go. Now.
