This made me think of Penelope Casas, who I was shocked to discover has recently passed away.

Her 1982 book The Foods and Wines of Spain is a delight to read even with no intent of ever cooking anything mentioned therein, and there are numerous others including Tapas: The Little Dishes of Spain, which is good preparation for visiting a tapas bar.

so, around $125 - $150 for 2 with wine, tax and tip?

Yeah. At those prices, I could buy a month's worth of groceries. Aragona's is going straight to the top of my "passing on this" list.

Further evidence that when it comes to spending money rather than making it, the rich are really dumber than the rest of us.

Your facts on leadership on the wine and service are incomplete at best, and wrong at worst.

Adobo in Spain is a marinade and by extension a sauce with similar ingredients you'd put in a traditional marinade. That both the adobo dishes you got were deep-fried is coincidental.

I haven't been to Aragona but reading through the menu after seeing they label themselves as "regional spanish cuisine" was disappointing although not too surprising; more like "modern PNW with some Spanish influence" like it should be expected. I'm grateful however that they haven't done a clever take on paella. Rant over.

Oooohhh force-fed goose meat!! Meanwhile, around the corner is hungry homeless person. Pretentious assholes!

Imagine the prices after a 60% minimum wage increase!

I simply love ill-defined pretense (or is that self deprecation?) and those who believe that every restaurant should bend over and kiss their a_s and let them control what they eat until we are all eating the same mundane moronic boring fare you could find at your local BS ma and pa restaurant, all the while claiming there is nothing better than this (garbage) outside of home!
Please have the common sense to accept that not everything in life is designed for you and any judgments on those things outside your envelope are exactly that.
I am looking forward to trying Aragona.

Napping - go ahead and spend your money as foolishly as you wish. You know, it's only food - that is, basic fuel for the body, and nothing more.

Overpriced weird shit on a plate is just overpriced weird shit on a plate. It's not art. No doubt you'll be shooting bad pictures of it to post so you can boast to your friends how trendy you are. Calling someone else pretentious is a little bit on the pot calling the kettle side, don't you think?

@9 "it's only food... It's not art"

Really? A great meal, whether it costs $5 or $200 is one of life's great pleasures. Creating a great meal is an expressive undertaking. I dunno how you personally define art, but that fits my description of it.
