In Honor of Hearts and Flowers, Let's Talk About Mass-Market Sugar

You are really good at writing about flavors! Most people write about flavors and it's so abstract that I don't really follow it--but I'm right with you through the whole journey!
2
I'd be all over that Hello Kitty hot "chocolate" if it were like Nestle strawberry Quik (I have problems).

And thank you for taking over Megan's sugar beat.
3
Cadbury Egg.
4
@3 - Easter. SOON!
5
i wish they made heart shaped applets and cotlets or ..or something like cranlets..or something..
6
Necco puts gelatin in its candies (conversation hearts and Necco wafers). TRAYF. Don't you like yourself?
7
@4 - True. It's just the only thing my mind allows me to consider under the topic: Drugstore chocolate :)
8
"... which seems like the opposite of a problem... "

lol -I love you, Emily!
9
@5: I got a bag of candy at PCC in Fremont that is called Surf Sweets Organic Fruity Hearts. They are pink and red, watermelon and cherry flavored, respectively. Small, tender, tasty. And on sale.

Weird, I would have written about:

- Sugar & other ingredients from processed GMO corn monocrops, destroying thousands of years of corn farming traditions in Mexico & Central America, local farms all across the USA. Wreaking havoc on bees, butterflies, soil.

- Colonial blood chocolate from child labor and de facto slavery in West Africa

- Eggs & milk from the worst of tortured chickens and cows

- Artificial food dyes (mostly derived from coal tar), literally not food and banned in many other countries for good reason.

- How promoting dirt cheap crap food makes healthy food more expensive and destroys the health of poor people, especially women and racial minorities

Instead of talking about how great this crap is, I would have told people that you don't have to be perfect when you buy treats or other things, just don't be THE LITERAL WORST.

@10, you must be a blast at parties.
12
11- I know the difference between a party and a (supposedly) progressive newspaper. And there are lots of ways to make important social issues fun -- see Lindy West or Dan Savage or even some band I heard about called Tacocat.
13
@12 Hmm, in what universe would Dan Savage write anything even remotely similar to your comment?

Please wait...
