Tax Bezos!

2

FWIW Bezos no longer lives in Washington State. He now lives in Jupiter Island Florida and is neighbors with Jarvanka.

He's left Amazon to pursue his rocket company Blue Origin. This is probably one of if not the main reason he's kissing up to Trump. Bezos wants the same kind of subsidy Elon Musk has been given by the Feds.

Anti-capitalist drivel.

@2

I'm well aware.

5

Tax every bazillionaire

I read this, and the underlying ideas are sound to me, but the rhetoric is old-timey and exclusionary, like reading an old Communist Party pamphlet from the 1930s. The left desperately needs to learn how to message.

Instead of pouting about how the Democratic Party and the unions have "betrayed" working people, talk about what you are selling. Focus on the "what's in it for you" aspect of your movement, and leave party politics, moral scolding, and labor movement in-fighting out of it.

And for God's sake, stop talking about Kshama Sawant, who actively worked against the working people of this country in the last Presidential Election with her purity nonsense.

7

@6 They can't do that is in this case because this is the essentially a sales pitch for the new "movement" that Sawant left SA to lead. If you read the bio at the bottom both of the authors are members of Workers Strike Back.
It reads like her standard schtick because it comes out of her playbook. I had hoped when Rich left TS would stop publishing this kind of over the top propaganda that does nothing to actually move conversations forward. I can only surmise Sawant pays TS to publish these diatribes.

8

@6 Spot on, as usual.

9

15 billion in debt. We need to fire thousands of state employees. Not one state employee is eliminated in Ferguson's budget. That is not leadership.

It really is incomprehensible that literally all that needs to be done to have a functioning government and enough money for everyone in this country is to take the motherfuckers who are hoarding so much wealth that they can literally lose hundreds of billions of dollars IN A DAY and still be the wealthiest people on earth.

Of course it's not just the greed that is destroying this country. White men think they and they alone deserve everything and that everyone else should either serve their needs or be killed.

Human beings are such an incredibly horrifying species. The only hope for the planet is extinction. We have learned nothing in the time we have been here. Nothing. We don't deserve life.

"Meanwhile, public-sector workers face a meager 5% raise over two years, effectively canceled out by furlough days and inflation."

The "meager 5% raise" was part of a collectively bargained agremeent that WSFE touted as a major victory. The authors elected to omit mention of the fact that starting pay for state employees was raised across the board, a substantial number of positions were reclassified resulting in increased pay for workers in those positions, additional funding was secured to ensure healthcare premiums remain low, and opportunities for paid leave were expanded, along with a number of other improvements for state workers.

This really went off the rails with the Kshama Sawant silliness, that’s a sure fire way to turn people off of your cause and polarize something that some otherwise would have been sympathetic too. She was already toxic and after the last election became downright radioactive.

13

“Seattle’s working people showed how to win under Kshama Sawant”

Fuck Comrade Sawant - she actively campaigned to defeat Kamala knowing it meant the election of Trump.

Don’t reward an arsonist for pledging to fight the fire they started.

@6, @7: The Democratic Party’s umbrella has traditionally included unions, and other pro-labor, pro-worker groups. The problem is that Sawant, Socialist Alternative, and other hard lefties regard the Democratic Party not as the broad coalition it has long actually been, but rather as a single-issue labor party, which has thus “betrayed” labor/workers. So these lefties constantly rail against the Democrats (whose support they need) as if they’re as bad as the Republicans, thus ending any hope of getting taken seriously from us in the reality-based world. (Documents from Socialist Alternative, revealed by SCC Insight, tell the inside story of SA’s pipe-dream, about SA replacing the Democrats. In Seattle.) It’s all performative, and as @12 and @13 note, not harmless.
