Proud theater fag says one of the aspects of the original production that was amazing was the size of the orchestra. It was the largest Broadway orchestra ever assembled up to that time, and may not have been equalled since, in these days of electronic substitutes for instruments. It had harps and lutes and mandolins and a harpsichord, piccolo and three voices of saxophone, and was generally an outrageous band for a union show. And, as can be heard in the YouTube clip, there was a lot of playing around with time signatures, something Lerner and Loewe don't get a lot of credit for.
Why does the title only apply to devotees of musicals? I should think it indicates much higher devotion to the theatre not to require songs to keep awake.
Absolutely!
