great fact checking guys

Kshameful indeed.
Some times a research may lead to unexpected results, such as years-long anger and frustration.

Yepper, this is the "new" Seattle alright. Where the biggest worry in the world is how Kshama is pronounced. But, I still cant help but wonder - who will care in a 100 years? I find it ironic that this is an issue but when calling Microsoft Tech Support - which is clearly based in India, its always "Joe", "Mike" and "Pete", maybe its time for a change to Patty, Maria and Hillary?

Here in America, we have this lil thang called The First Amendment. People can say what they want and how they want. So stop trying to tell people how to say what they want. Trying to tell people how to speak a certain name is a sure way to "Fuckoffville".

Kakashama

Cashama
Kashama

It's all the same to me.

Nice find @1! And suck it self-rightous anon! Straight from her, you do pronounce the K:

"My name is from the Sanskrit language, which is a phonetic language, and sometimes the words don't transliterate clearly into a non-phonetic language. In my first name, the letters "ksh" are one letter in Sanskrit, and go together. So it's a sh sound with a soft k before it.

But since it is hard, I tell people not to worry and just call me "shama" - pretend the k is silent. Incidentally, "Kshama" means forgiveness in Sanskrit, and "shama" means light in Arabic, and both are female names, so either is fine with me."

Great fact-checking indeed, #1. You guys should go to the source and add Kshama's response as an update.
And even if IA was correct..."shameful"? Really? Mispronouncing a difficult name is shameful? Would it be shameful if she was Welsh?

This week on Portlandia...

Sometimes I hate this city sooooo fucking much.

So basically, her name begins with a sound we do not make in English. Many find it difficult to pronounce this sound and we approximate as best we can. It is the same way with, oh say, French vowel sounds. We Anglophones may practice our entire lives and never quite pick up the subtleties. Let's not even get started on the difficulties of learning and speaking Chinese.
I am so ashamed and humiliated by this that I will not venture out into public or speak for a year.
IA: You are a fucking idiot.

First, learn how to pronounce Sequim and Puyallup. Then worry about how to pronounce Kshama.
12
Also, it's Mike O'Brrrrrrrien. Ignorant anti-Irish hicks can't even roll a proper R.
13
This is why I just call her the Angry Show Poodle. I wouldn't want to offend anyone.
14
It's Kshameful, is what it is.
15
If you're 17-30, I Anonymous shows up with a shaming of those who pronounce a "K" at the beginning, and if you're 31 and older, it's a rant on predatory-listening, misinformed millennials with guilt complexes about their privilege.
16
Yo, person who edits "I, Anonymous" -- why don't you show us all how shitty a pool of letters you get to choose from some weeks? Blog one per day and have us vote! It's okay, you can overrule us in the end.
18
The comments section of I anonymous is often so mean-spirited. If you hate this city soooooo much, then please move somewhere where you are happy. And if you despise the Stranger, then don't read it. Lighten up and calm down. Have a drink, or meditate or something. And try to have a good day! Geez Louise.
19
To help remember that the K is silent just think of the song Shama Lama Ding Dong.
20
Pronounced Comrade Sawant, regardless of the position she currently holds. Learn it, love it, obey it.

If I may be so bold as to translate many of the comments about Kshama Sawant in these august pages:

Don't let Kshama talk you into making me pay state or city income tax on my six-figure salary! She's a communist! And uppity, too!

---- A snotty, entitled yuppie who lives in the most regressively taxed state in the Union and who is paying federal income tax at half the rate of the 60s

Hella, yo.

Please wait...
