I wish you had said something too, that's not okay at all.

Well to be hinest, it isnt as if one only sees that kind of thing on the E-Line at 1am. Try Downtown, Saturday afternoon at high noon, or lower Queen Anne on a Monday at 7:30 am, or Ballard on a Wednesday at 5:00 pm, and Capitol Hill - well thats 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, 365 a year. Frankly, its another sign that this city has gone down the crapper and as long as ones acting like they're in the crapper while in the eye of the general public, one cant be too astounded when they end up on YouTube, Facebook or any other mind-numbing social media site that is hypocritically used by those critics and empowers that behavior. After all, it isnt like the hypocritical in this town aren't constantly photographing cops doing their jobs an effort to try to get some kind of dirt on them and get famous on the news - and they are just doing their job, so why should anyone be treated any differently?

Seems like fair game to me.
4
At least your conscience is clear, anonymous.
5
Some people still don't understand that video recording in a public space is perfectly acceptable and not illegal. Grow a thicker skin, little bitch.
6
And that is the problem with Seattle.More than willing to call out bad behavior from the anonymity of the internet but don't have the stones to say anything about it at the time.
7
Why is she offended that someone was filming, and not offended by the socially gruesome behavior of the woman?

And yes, if you are in public people can snap as many pics of you as they want, no matter what you are doing (including yapping on yer toys). Welcome to FREEDOM.

I don't think anybody is saying that this guy broke the law, or should be prosecuted for filming the woman. I think the point is that there's the law, and then there's human decency. Sure, it's legal for him to film her, but is it good? Is it the compassionate thing to do?

@9 - Exploiting a stranger, and one who seems to be having some kind of issue (drug-related, alcohol-related or otherwise), for your own giggles has always been on my "shitty thing to do" list.

Like I said, is it the compassionate and kind thing to do? No, it's the cruel and/or insensitive and/or ugly thing to do. If you like doing insensitive, cruel and ugly things, have at it. But don't get all sore when someone points out that you're being cruel, ugly and insensitive.
12
Anything you do in public is public domain.

If you wanna fight fire with fire then just film the guy filming the girl and post that. That way everyone can be a creep.

/Also, no one truly gives a shit.
14
@13: Very good point. If someone can possibly be identified due to their conversation or activities at a particular time and place, it seems like splitting hairs to say filming is worse.
15
Was she a drunk sane woman embarrassing herself, or was she a mentally incompetent woman who rides the buses because she can't sleep?

To me, that makes a load of difference.

Filming those drunk assholes outside of clubs who fall down because they're in 12 inch stilettos and then downed a gallon of appletinis? Funny!

Filming a mentally incompetent woman who is clearly having an episode and trying to keep it together? Asshole.
16
Why don't people do their embarrassing shit in the privacy of their home? My friend, some of them don't have homes. Maybe their most half-private place is in a tent that's got unsafe people passing by.

So have a thought for if this woman is not in a public space because she is okay with being filmed, but because it's a trade-off versus being assaulted. Do you really like to lean on the "public space = fair game" legal standard here? Why is this worth it?
17
@11 Breaking news: people are allowed to have a different opinion than you.
18
Being riveted by a stranger's public breakdown is understandable, but don't giggle and sneer and record them like some fucking jackal.
19
@12. I like your idea.
20
I don't think you need consent to film anything done in public because there's no reasonable right to privacy being as they're in PUBLIC!!! Unless it's for commercial use. Then you need permission. So don't do sh*t in public that you want kept private, mmmkay?

Please wait...
