And when you do pull over, pull to the goddamned curb, not halfway there. Also, don't throw a sudden unsignalled U-turn to get to your fare. You guys are going to kill someone one of these days. And I'll bet you anything that your Uber/Lyft bosses throw you under the bus when you do. BTW, the next time one of you threatens me physically, I'm going to break your damn windshield. Had it with you assholes.

3

We only have to be better than Uber/Lyft tough guys.

Seriously, I have had two of these assholes threaten me. One said he was going to "fucking run me over." I've had many "discussions" with drivers over the years and this one looked like he meant it. Mark my words, there is going to be a fight at some point when one of these fuckers causes a bike accident. I'm not the only one who's fed up.

Can't wait until the IRS and/or L & I cracks down on these tax-dodging "independent contractor" schemes.

I LOVE THIS STUFF!!!

Even though I was born in Seattle, the reason I had to leave is because of all you wingnuts with your heads up your asses. Having trouble climbing all over each other, eh? Well, put too many hamsters in a shoebox and guess what happens?

Cannibalism. Eat up, nimrods.

5

Let's be like Vancouver BC and outlaw them entirely.

You have 5 years left to have 80 percent of going carbon neutral done, and demand cabs are making it worse.

6

Everybody out there has somewhere to be, and often there isn't a lot of space to travel in. No lack of assholes... distributed between four wheels, two wheels, and no wheels. Please don't believe that an asshole response to an asshole move gives you the high moral ground.

7

@3 dvs99: Agreed. This shit has got to stop. Demand cabs = extortion fares. I have witnessed Lyft / Uber drivers race like they're trying to win the Indy 500, all for that almighty dollar, and with any concerns for public safety last.
@4 kalakala: Agreed. This week's I, Anon is another reason why I'm grateful to no longer reside in Seattle (I couldn't afford to move back, anyway). You nailed it--traffic is a nightmare with too many hamsters in a shoebox.

8

Uber/Lyft/whatever drivers are the new congestion. Their companies are money losers. The drivers tie up everything. Don't even get me started on their so called "ride sharing" what bullshit. They are taxis. Fucking end them

9

These de-facto taxi cabs break the law every single minute they are in operation because only taxi cabs are allowed to do what they do. The drivers don't obey basic traffic laws. They make the traffic worse. They stop in the middle of the street, but it's okay, they put their hazzard lights on. smh Fuck them. And fuck the people who use their service.

11

Yea, the problem is only an occasional car in the bike lanes and all bicyclists always obey all road laws. And no one has ever heard of bicyclists riding on sidewalks or parking their bikes in front of building entrances.

12

I’m amazed the city allows ride shares and delivery services to just do whatever they want. Every study finds that they make traffic worse. Constantly blocking the bus stops and bus lanes, reckless driving, half-assed parking. Cities like Chicago geofence to help keep transit arterials and transit stops clear. But without enforcement people will do what they want.

13

Uber drivers might pull over to the curb if they could. But, there's a protected bike lane there now. And chances are, no one's actually using it.

If you don't want to use rideshares that's your business. I hope you have fun and feel virtuous biking in the rain or sitting on a urine soaked bus every day.

14

“Lazy drunks”?? Because what, you expect drunk people to jog home? Or bicycle? Have you ever seen a drunk person try to bicycle? Complain about whatever else but you should all be glad that drunk people aren’t driving themselves home.

15

1 i'm not buying the tough guy talk, you sound like someone who's never been in a fight, so good luck with that!

16

@11 riding a bicycle on the sidewalk is perfectly legal in Seattle.
SMC 11.44.120.

But don’t let facts get in the way of your point.

17

@12 is spot on. An Uber driver who circulated in traffic waiting for a ride and then drives a fare somewhere INCREASES traffic rather than reducing it. Makes things worse for all of us.

@13- a bike lane is a traffic lane. Sitting in it and waiting is no different from stopping in the right lane of a 4-lane street and blocking it. And I don’t know if I feel “virtuous” or not, but I do have fun. And at least I am less lazy than those of you who mindlessly drive everywhere (somehow I suspect you fit that category).

The first time I slapped an Uber/Lyft car was heading home up Dexter--and I don't know when people are seeing empty bike lanes, they're pretty full when I'm on my commute--and it wasn't the first uber I had to dodge around while going up the hill, or even the second or the third. No, it was the FOURTH uber parked in the bike lane over a roughly 3/4 mile distance that caused me to finally lose patience and slap the hood as I rode by. It's not a parking lane or a drop off lane, it's a traffic lane for bikes.

And I've been almost hit so many times by uber and lyft drivers pulling u-turns and darting across the bike lane right in front of me--two weeks ago when I was riding with my kids and I had one pull in front of me so close that I had to slam on the brakes. Rideshare users, please give these people low ratings when they behave like this. Everyone needs to pay better attention and respect vulnerable users whether they're on their bikes or on their feet.

And lets all be honest. Yes, cyclists do run red lights and stop signs. But so do drivers. Have you ever exceeded the speed limit? Not used your blinker to change lanes or make a turn? Blown through a red light? I can't imagine that you haven't.

Entitled white male bikers letting out their sexual frustrations and testosterone fueled rage on cars. It is ILLEGAL to hit a car. Control yourself and act like a responsible adult.

20

@19 remember, drop the object. Say a seagull had it.

It's a port city.

21

Lots of whining in here. If biking is so dangerous, don't do it.

22

Interesting that most bike bros are white males between the ages of 20 and 40 while most Lyft, Uber, and taxi drivers seem to be African immigrants.

Check your privilege bike bros, check your privilege.

23

Let me guess - you are male, under 50, and able-bodied. How do I do it?

24

Solidarity to the slappers here. It was a totally normal thing to do when I biked in Chicago -- why are Seattleites so protective of their gigantic cars getting a slap from a fleshy hand? It's not gonna do any damage to your Civic, buddy. I've gotten hit by enough cars to know that a bone and/or bike frame will bend long before your drivers' side door will.

@19, parking your car in a bike lane (and allowing your passengers to fling open doors with no concern for cyclists) is ILLEGAL. Control yourself and find a parking spot/loading zone like a responsible adult.

Signed,
<3 a disabled female cyclist who can't afford to drive <3 (check your privilege, drivers!!! check your privilege.)

I’ve noticed how the rideshare drivers that get cars slapped for fucking with pedestrians and cyclists don’t usually do anything to support their “rights” because they only ever get slapped for being in the wrong. I’ve also seen wronged pedestrians smash rideshare cars’ headlights, like with a metal water bottle (slapping is so passe). We all know there’s no consequences for doing anything anymore downtown, so maybe take some traffic enforcement into our own hands. I’m just sayin’...
