That is an objectively bad place to stop. You were in the wrong, and the fact that a misogynist pointed that out to you doesn't change the fact you were stopped in a dumb spot.

2

If she was watching the sunset in late-Spring or early-Summer, then it was well past the time when it's not smart to stop on the Fremont Bridge.

Also, it's a fucking drawbridge. Hipster dude should focus his rage on the millionaire sailboats that close the bridge several times a day. That's what I do.

3

Vehicles in traffic shouldn’t stop unless there is a sign or light; even more dangerous on a bridge! Glad no one got hurt.

4

my favorite part of this, and a lot of other I, Anons, is when the writer calls the person passive-aggressive. then proceeds to submit an aggressive complaint on here. that's gold jerry! gold!

6

Fine, it's not a good idea to stop, but the "I know you're a woman and all..." -- that's some fucked up, sexist bullshit. And fucked up, sexist bullshit is much worse than stopping your bike on the bridge to look at a pretty sunset. That guy was an ass. Nobody fuck that guy.

7

There are lots of reasons why someone stops when riding a bike. Maybe their tire was flat. Maybe they needed to rest.
So just around them, and don’t have a hissy first.

8

@3 I'd think she was almost certainly on the sidewalk, where there are also pedestrians, possibly children, or even elderly and/or disabled. Slowing or stopping should be expected. If there was any significant possibility of anyone being hurt then the "absolute hipster" was totally at fault.

9

@7, it's the Fremont bridge. It's an extremely narrow passage, and it's really hard to pass, even pedestrians. Bikes are even harder to pass there. This is the best kind of "I, Anonymous": one where the writer is clearly in the wrong, but the other person is also clearly an asshole. Just munch your popcorn like a normal person.

10

Yes, hundreds of thousands of people are killed every year from stopping on a drawbridge, don't be one of them. And, by law, they will not wait for you to get off once its being raised. This man wasn't an angry pissant shit ball, he saved your life.

Re: people siding with the biker: I'm confused - isn't the side of the Fremont bridge a sidewalk? Since when is it not okay to stop on a sidewalk and look out over the water? Isn't it the cyclist's job to slow down, give space, and not make asshole comments, just like it's a car's job to slow down, give space, and not make asshole comments when passing a cyclist on the road? For the record, I have been biking the streets of Seattle since 1993; but I don't get over to Fremont much so I can't recall what the trail/walkway layout is these days.

I confess, never been to Seattle or Fremont Bridge, but I always stopped in middle of George Washington bridge in NYC, it has amazing view. It also had wide pedestrian/bike sidewalk.

18

SISTER, here is some solidarity for you. You just keep using your perfectly perfect judgement about when and where to stop and do your thing, and keep on being yourself on your bike. FUCK testosterone fueled bike dudes, riding alone and in packs as if they own the fucking universe. I am next to you in spirit and I'm not the only one. I've been riding my bike around since I was a girl, for pleasure and for transportation, and I cannot count the number of times an asshole man has assholed his male blech all over me. Men on bikes (and men in general), shut the FUCK up and just be nice and kind to those you encounter on your merry asshole male way. ps. I love men, just not asshole men, so don't even make this about how I hate all men doing all things.

19

F that.
Stab any tire pump in his front spokes.
Then again, if you are likely to cross his post-traction ass again, your act could be the highest class action. Some seem so free with their unsolicited opinions.

The biggest crime here is that Anon felt the need to use the word "literally" twice in her complaint. I assume she thought it would give her argument more weight. It does not. No one reading this was going to make the mistake of thinking the guy figuratively or metaphorically ran a red light. Stop constantly peppering this word in to your statements. It does not make you sound more intelligent. It makes you sound like an idiot.

"Stop constantly peppering this word [literally] in to your statements. It [literally] does not make you sound more intelligent. It [literally] makes you sound like an idiot."

well said jack.

23

Cyclo wars! Obligatory use of "um." Obligatory leveraging of race into the equation where there was none. Complains of sexism then ends with sexism. Guy was a jerk, yes. But it seemed you had processed it out in real time. Why the followup here? To carry the flag?
