A friend and I were at a cinema complex in Connecticut some years ago, and out of the blue comes Marlo Thomas running by herself to get a ticket in time before the movie started. Granted it's just an anecdote, but it's a delightful memory that puts away your "nobody watches movies alone" stereotype.
"A lot of people donât see movies alone, particularly in the middle of the day. The ones who do usually look like my potential future self if things donât go as planned."
Funny thing is, back in the 90s if this had been published in the Weekly, you just KNOW The Stranger would have sent someone to the show to interview this dipshit.

I loved the old ISawUâs. It failed â of course, it did â because it was so sad for the 999 of the thousand who were never seen. Over and over, hoping in vain. On the buses and in the canoes at the Arboretum and sometimes, Iâm sure, in film clichĂ©s on the escalators, going opposite ways, back when they worked, in the brightly lit department stores, back when they were still a thing. Like those ISawUâs back then, I wonder about this one, like, how many people are going to show up at the movie wearing big puffy blue coats. Or looking for them. Iâll never know. Itâd be the last place Iâd go. Good luck lonely hearts. And please, silence your phones and pick up after yourselves.
Eastern Bloc photojournalism vibe . . . hard pass.
Learn to grind, go to clubs. Plenty of girls your age. They might even like the jacket.

Geez, how old are you?
God, I hate living in a world where people use phrases like "Eastern Bloc photojournalism vibe" without realizing how idiotic they sound.

"My friends in college told me itâs weird to see movies alone because theyâre a 'social experience.'â
Obviously not cinephiles. I had a friend in those days I realized went to the movies mostly because he's a serious popcorn addict.
Gather ye rosebuds while ye may.
Griping about it is almost as lame
as IsawU postings. Good luck, but
luck isn't a life-strategy that works.
I had no idea the lead singer of A Flock of Seagulls was in Seattle and looking for romance. Did she have auburn hair and tawny eyes?
