Sounds like an issue you should take up with your husband. He could easily say he's busy and not do all these things for these women. But since he continues to choose do these things, maybe he likes to do them. Maybe these women are providing him with something he's not getting at home.

Street group camping trip, yeesh. This is how therapists make their money.

@2,

Good point. I'd not be surprised if it takes him a while to complete these tasks because he's doing such a thorough job in order to make these women happy. In particular, I know projects relating to the back door can be rather time consuming and messy.

What an odd situation. I've lived in neighborhoods (as a kid) where I'd classify the community as pretty friendly and tight-knit but - whoa - group camping trips and block parties that happen on the regular enough that there's rotating organizing responsibilities? That's definitely above what I've seen.

I can't help but get Stepford Wives or The 'Burbs vibes, like there's some truly dark secret waiting to be uncovered and the camping trip was some weird nexus point, like Mary stole Bob's actual soul and the witnesses/co-conspirators are so fucked up it ruined their own households so now the less-outgoing couple are the only normies left, untouched by the supernatural and unknowingly waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Shit, now a want the sequel follow-up to this I,A where the normal couple sets proper boundaries with the neighbors and are then targets for a revenge campaign from the "wronged" housewives. I can't tell if this screenplay should be played as serious and suspenseful or a dark comedy.

I do loves me some dark comedies.

@#4: Superbly nasty. Well done!

The husband is probably sleeping with all those other women. Sorry.

“Desperate housewives,” “deliver the goods,” yeah, this one’s probably (wink, wink) a fake. Well-written, though; fake or real, I hope the author sells it to Hollywood for a nice chunk of change. It’s been the better part of twenty years since the original “desperate housewives,” so the market for this sort of thing may have picked up again.

Growing up in the seventies, we lived on a street in the woods with six houses, three of which were older people, three with families. There were no fences, everyone got along, we had a Fourth of July picnic, but that was about the extent of it. I can't imagine a group camping trip.

That's what you get for moving to a fucking cul-de-sac.

A flat refusal will only establish enmity, as the recipients have come to see his courtesies as obligations at this point. Miss Manners suggests you print business cards and flyers announcing his launch as a professional handyman, promising reasonable rates. WA law requires all such advertising include a licensee number, the cost of which would be a small price to pay for never being asked again.

Good points, kristofarian. OP: if you’re still checking replies, consider this: if the neighbors are selfish enough to expect free maintenance and repairs, what would stop them from suing for anything going wrong (electrical fire, personal injury, etc.) for which the fault could be placed on your end with the flimsiest pretext?

"Now we want a sequel follow-up where a normal couple sets boundaries with neighbors, then targets for revenge a campaign for 'wronged' housewives who can't tell if screenplay should play serious suspense or dark comedy. Vanity, who will you follow?

Is this an entitled broad or what?
