Well the alternative is just turn across the adjoining lane. This is something that happens to me regularly. I have cars traveling in the same direction and they just make a wide left or right turn across my lane. They do not change lanes and then turn.

Very easy to identify which people think they're more important than others based on their driving habits. You can always tell, every time.

If Seattle drivers used their horns more when this bad driving happens it would start to train drivers to not do it. If you don't let bad drivers know that they're driving bad they will continue to drive bad like this without any recourse. I've seen plenty of situations just like the one depicted here where Seattle drivers don't honk or anything .. just sit there and let the awful driver do their thing. And in situations like this it needs to be a heavy aggressive blow of the horn .. really let 'em know they're f'ing up.

We need more traffic cops for stuff like this. When I was learning to drive, "stupid mistakes" would often get me pulled over and talked to. Very few tickets because the object of this enforcement was for the officer to lean into the car window, get a good sniff for booze and/or weed. And get a peek at my pupils. I was always clean. Just young and stupid.

And then we need judges who will yank licenses. "Back to basic training for you!" And if it happens too many times, no more driving forever. Take the bus. It will relieve the pressure on our capacity limited roadways.
